A well planned fixings strategy can prevent all of these issues and is critical for safety, performance and compliance. It defines how fixings are selected, specified and installed across a project.
 
To help you get it right every time we’ve outlined five essential questions, based on BS 8539:2012, that you should ask when implementing your fixings strategy.

  1. Fixings AdviceDoes each stakeholder understand their role(s) within the BS8539:2012 Code of Practice? Contractors, Installers and Supervisors each have specific responsibilities.
  2. Do you have the specified anchor's technical documents & data sheets? Ensure they have been read and any specific drilling or setting tools obtained.
  3. Are the installers competent to install the anchors? Is training or a toolbox talk required?
  4. Does the specified anchor have ETA information for the substrate being fixed in to? If not, a Preliminary Test will be required.
  5. Is there a process to ensure the correct anchors are used and re-ordered throughout the project & supply chain? Is a Fixings Board required to communicate this?
